Mengwi Taman Ayun Temple During our Sunset Tour 16th April 2017

Mengwi Temple also call Taman Ayun Temple is one of the world heritage site in Bali island . Beautiful temple setting in the center of Mengwi district . The temple is surrounded by beautiful garden and also wide moat . The created moat as a water supply for the rice irrigation around that area .

Here I would like to share our tour pictures during our trip , Bali Half day Tour with our clients from German . Our program is start at 2 pm by meeting them at the Hotel lobby . Drive through great Sunday traffic toward west to Taman Ayun Temple as our first destination . Our Bali Tour program is to visit Taman Ayun Temple , Alas Kedaton Monkey Forest and last place is toward Tanah Lot temple and expecting arrive there before sunset .

Mengwi Temple or known as Taman Ayun temple is one of the interesting temple to explore . The temple surrounded by big garden area and also wide created moat that use as a water supply for the rice irrigation of the latest Mengwi Kingdom Area 

The Temple located at Mengwi village in Badung regency , about 18 km from the city of Denpasar and its easy to reached by car or motorbike . The Temple surrounded by a wide moat ( which is currently use for the irrigation for the rice field around the village ) was the main Temple of Mengwi Kingdom . 

This huge state of Temple was built in 1634 and survived until 1891 when it was conquered by the neighboring kingdoms of Tabanan and Badung . As other Temple , there are 3 main yards which is the first courtyard is a large, open grassy expanse , second yard which is smaller and open grassy where there is a main building at the corner called Bale Kulkul , Kulkul is a big round and long wood used for communication alarm which is placed in the very high building of Bale Kulkul . The inner yard is the main courtyard has multitude of MERU  ( multi tiered shrines ) which is located around the main yard and in the east part for the most . The tallest MERU in the east is dedicated to DEWI SRI a god of fertility which is closely related with rice and irrigation ( Shrine of Ulun Suwi ) . 

At one side of the east part there are MERUS which is dedicated to the spirit warriors of Pasek Buduk from Buduk Village . The king built built the Temple to worship this warrior spirit due to unending war between Mengwi and Buduk Village . Pasek was the region’s strong defender and the head of the village . Inspired by the bigger necessity to consolidate the kingdom , Pasek wanted to subdue the King by disclosing his physical weakness , and ask the king to build a shrine for his spirit and appoint one each from 4 casts as the adopted children . The 40 children than raised become a strong garrison to support the glory of the Kingdom . The Temple has beautiful scenery and has become one of the famous ancient site to visit , so this is a place that must see when you are in Bali for your vacation . The trip to this place usualy combine weather full day trip to the north or just for half day trip with Tanah Lot Temple and Monkey forest  

The visitors are required to pay entrance ticket for Rp 20.000 / person , and sarong ( traditional bali cloth ) will not require to enter the Temple area
